View Dalton Sherman’s famous keynote speech, Do You Believe in Me? At the time of this speech in 2008, Dalton was a 10 year old entering into the fifth (5th) grade. He address over 17,000 educators from the Dallas Texas area, challenging them to believe in him and his classmates.

Then view the same young man seven (7) years later as he addresses educators at the Extra Yard for Teacher summit in 2015 with his Don’t Lose Your Joy speech.

After viewing the Do You Believe in Me?, and the Extra Yard for Teachers Summit 2015, based on the Six Pillars of Character, consider the target career option in education you researched in week three, and what you know about the importance of mindset in both the student and the educator. Craft a discussion response that explains three specific ways you will show your students that you believe in them as you create your own classroom culture and climate.

Guided Response: Consider and respond to the response shared in at least two of your classmates posts. Provide your reaction to their suggestions on how they will show their students they believe in them. In addition to your two classmate responses, be sure to respond to any questions or comments posted by your instructor.

EDU 100 Week 3 Discussion 1 updated

When most people think of the careers in education, they default to a classroom teacher. In the past decade, the education arena has broadened to offer a wide array of career opportunities.

Use the World Wide Web to research career options within the education arena. Consider these three things:

•The WHY you identified. (Week 1).

•How the Six Pillars of Character come into play as educators relate to their students (week 2).

•The education level which interests you (early childhood, elementary, middle school, high school, adult).

Other than classroom teacher, identify one alternate career path which might interest you.

As you share your findings with your classmates, include the following:

•A description of the position and its duties.

•Where would one expect to work if employed in this position?

•The minimum level of education required to serve in that position.

•The skills and experience required to serve in that position.

•The salary range advertised for the position.

Guided Response: Consider and respond to the career options shared in at least two of your classmates posts. Provide your reaction to the career paths they sharedDid you know those paths existed, or were they updated discoveries for you? In addition to your two classmate responses, be sure to respond to any questions or comments posted by your instructor.

EDU 100 Week 2 Discussion 2 updated

As educators, it is important to teach students the difference between DUE dates and DO dates. For instance, many students here at Ashford University have shared that they often wait until right before the DUE date to begin to DO their course assignments. Those same students have shared this practice always results in lower scores in the course.

It is important to learn to chunk tasks over several days to make them more manageable, as this creates opportunity for more feedback, input, and improvement.

Your mission for this discussion prompt is to identify which of the Six Pillars of Character you will access and how you will use the pillars to support a classroom discussion about avoiding procrastination and task management.

•Explain the DUE date vs. DO date principle in in your response.

•Make sure you share the plan that you generate to and discuss how you will teach your future students to abide by the DUE date vs. DO date.
Guided Response: Consider and respond to the ideas shared in at least two of your classmates posts. Provide additional ideas on how they may incorporate the DUE vs. DO principle in their classroom instruction. In addition to your two classmate responses, be sure to respond to any questions or comments posted by your instructor.
