Develop an original research study proposal. Write a 10- to 12-page paper that describes your research study proposal. Include at least 10 scholarly references in your paper.

Refer to the following outline as a guide when writing your paper. Include detailed information on all the following topics:

Statement of the problem: Introduce the reader to the problem to be studied. Provide sufficient background information so that the reader has a grasp of the situation.

Review of literature: Provide the reader with a review of salient literature, beginning with general information and narrowing the focus to the specific issues under consideration in the study.

Purpose of the study: Identify why the study you are proposing is needed.

Hypotheses – research questions: List as simple statements. Make sure they are measurable.

Definition of terms: Operationally define terms the average reader may not know or that have a specific meaning in your study.

Assumptions: Identify issues you assume to be true for your study to be valid.

Research methods and procedures

Population: Describe the population sample under study.

Procedure: Discuss how the study will be carried out.

Instruments: Describe the specific measurements used to test each hypothesis research question.

Data analysis: Describe the procedures you intend to use to analyze the data produced from your instruments and how these would answer the hypotheses (research questions.

Results: Because you are only proposing and not conducting a research study, you will not have results; however, you can discuss potential outcomes of your study in the discussion section.

Discussion: Review your hypothesis and discuss potential outcomes. For example, if the results allow you to reject the null hypothesis, what are the implications? If the results compel you to accept the null hypothesis, what does that mean? Discuss the implications of your proposed study to the field, the limitations of your study, and future research ideas and directions.

Conclusion: Provide a brief summary of your proposal.

References: Include at least 10 scholarly sources.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

Answer the following questions, covering material from Ch. 13 of the Methods in Behavioral Research tex

A researcher is studying the effects of yoga on depression. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups: yoga and medication, which is the experimental group; or support group and medication, which is the control group. What is the null hypothesis? What is the research hypothesis? (2 points)

In the scenario described in the previous question, the researcher implements two programs simultaneously: a 6-week yoga program coupled with medication management and a 6-week support group program coupled with medication management. At the end of the 6 weeks, participants complete a questionnaire measuring depression. The researcher compares the mean score of the experimental group with the mean score of the control group. What statistical test would be most appropriate for this purpose? Explain your response. (2 points)

In the scenario described in the previous questions, the researcher predicted that participants in the experimental group—yoga plus medication—would score significantly lower on measures of depression than would participants in the control group—support group plus medication. True or false: A two-tailed test of significance is most appropriate in this case. Explain your response. (1 point)

Explain the relationship between the alpha level, or significance level and Type 1 error. (2 points)

A researcher is studying the effects of sex—male and female—and dietary sugar on energy level. Male and female participants agree to follow either a high sugar or low sugar diet for 8 weeks. The researcher asks the participants to complete a number of questionnaires, including one assessing energy level, before and after the program. The researcher is interested in determining whether a high or low sugar diet affects reported energy levels differently for men and women. At the end of the program, the researcher examines scores on the energy level scale for the following groups

What statistic could the researcher use to assess the data? (1 point)

Use the information presented in the previous question to discuss one possible main effect that might emerge from the analysis and one possible interaction that might emerge. (2 points)

A researcher is studying reading rates in milliseconds per syllable. What scale of measurement—nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio—is time in milliseconds? Explain your response. (1 point)

Under what circumstances is the median or mode a better measure of central tendency than the mean? Explain your response

True or false: The standard deviation and the range are sensitive to outliers. Explain your response. (1 point)

True or false: The standard deviation can never be 0. Explain your response. (1 point)

The Pearson r correlation coefficient is used with _____ level data. Pearson r coefficients can range from ______ to ______. (2 points)

A researcher is investigating the effects of anxiety on creativity. Individuals with varying levels of anxiety are asked to complete a measure of creativity. The results show a classic U-shaped distribution; that is, individuals with moderate levels of anxiety score the highest on tests of creativity. Individuals with very low or very high levels of anxiety score much lower on tests of creativity. Would the Pearson r correlation coefficient be a good statistic to use in this case? Explain your response. (2 points)

An experimenter is examining the relationship between age and self-disclosure. A large sample of participants that are 25 to 35 years old and participants that are 65 to 75 years old are compared, and significant differences are found with younger participants disclosing much more than older people. The researcher reports an effect size of .34. What does this mean? (2 points)
